Woke word map

This glossary of so-called woke terms may be useful to conservatives and older Americans who encounter them on social media, podcats, etc. We'll try to keep it up-to-date.

AF
abbreviation used on social media. Stands for "as fuck". Example: "He's stupid AF"
AsAm
Asian American. AsAms is plural.

An acronym that stands for Black, Asian, and minority ethnic.
Big Mad
Extremely upset at something.
bropropriate
When a man uses a woman’s idea and takes credit for it.
cancel culture
when someone is thrust out of social or professional circles because of acting or spoking in an unacceptable manner.
carding
the trafficking and unauthorized use of credit cards that are used to buy prepaid gift cards to cover up the tracks.
Cisgender, CIS, CIS men
When your gender identity matches the body you were born with. Wikipedia
clicktivism
The bare minimum that anyone can do to help a cause.
cultural appropriation
When members of a majority group adopt cultural elements of a minority group in an exploitative or disrespectful way.
Dark Brandon
angry Biden refers to Joe Biden aggressively taking on his political opponents. As opposed to the bipartisan Joe Biden who thinks of right-wing Republicans as his friends. Dark Brandon first appeared in August 2022 to the delight of millions of Democrats.

dead name
A transgender person's birth name when they have changed their name as part of their gender transition. Using someone's dead name when you're aware of the new name and have been corrected once already is being an asshole.
Diversity, equity, and inclusion
From Wikipedia: Diversity, equity, and inclusion (usually abbreviated DEI) refers to organizational frameworks which seek to promote "the fair treatment and full participation of all people", particularly groups "who have historically been underrepresented or subject to discrimination" on the basis of identity or disability.
Doxing or doxxing
a form of cyberbullying that uses sensitive or secret information, statements, or records for the harassment, exposure, financial harm, or other exploitation of targeted individuals. The best protection against this is to reveal as little information about yourself as possible when you're online. For example, publicly celebrating your birthday on Facebook is revealing information about you that could be used against you.
flexitarianism
A middle ground between being a vegetarian and a meat eater. Yeah, we don't know WTF this means either.
gaslight
Trying to convince someone that something obvious isn’t true.

greenwash
When a company tries to convince you that it’s more environmentally friendly than it really is.

The action by a pedophile of preparing a child for a meeting, especially via an internet chat room, with the intention of committing a sexual offense.
Handmaid's Tale references
angry Trump Many woke and non-woke liberals think that if conservatives and Republicans get their way, the future will look an awful lot like the TV series Handmaid's Tale. So, you'll see references to it on social media. Offred is the name of the main character. Other important characters are Aunt Lydia and the various Commanders and their barren wives.
The characters greet each other with numerous religious phrases: Under His Eye, Praised be, Go in grace, Blessed be the fruit, May the Lord open, By His word, Blessed day, and others.

A tendency for people of a particular religion, race, social background, etc., to form exclusive political alliances, moving away from traditional broad-based party politics.

LatinX
Unhappy Latina The woke seem to be split on whether this term is insulting to those who are Latin. We're waiting for a ruling. Avoid using the term for now. Instead, using “Latinos and Latinas” seems like an acceptable alternative. This Wikipedia page shows the results of numerous polls on the subject.
mansplain
When a man explains something to a woman in a condescending way.
marriage equality
Refers to same-sex marriage. Get used to it. It's here to stay. And screw your waffle fries.

microaggression
An interaction between people of different races, cultures, or genders in which a member of a victim group is subjected to subtle but powerful attack — one the attacker is unaware he or she is carrying out.
neurodiverse and neurodivergent
The notion that brains develop and function in numerous ways that are apart from the ways expected by society.
neurotypical
Individuals whose brain develops and functions in ways that are considered usual or expected by society.
OnlyFans
An internet content subscription service. The service is popular with sex workers in pornography, but it also hosts the work of other content creators, such as physical fitness experts and musicians.
pansexual
When you’re attracted to all genders.
phallocentric
the idea that the phallus, or male sexual organ, is the central element in the organization of the social world. Wikipedia

The practice of shows and movies depicting same-sex acts that are done to bait people into watching it.
quiet quitting
A Gen Z term for doing the bare minimum at work. Here's an article on the subject:

Rainbow capitalism (also “pink capitalism” or “pinkwashing”)
When companies commercialize and commodify LGBTQ pride.
Shadow banning
the practice of blocking or partially blocking a user or the user's content from some areas of an online community in such a way that the ban is not readily apparent to the user. For example, shadow banned comments posted to a blog or media website will not be visible to other users accessing the site.
sheepdogging
This term has numerous definitions. The most woke definition is to guide someone to a literal or figurative person, place, or thing by herding them as a sheepdog does.
slut shaming
The practice of shaming a woman for engaging in sexual intercourse.

transphobia
The dislike of or prejudice against transsexual or transgender people
trigger warning
When you're warned in advance that a topic about to be brought up might trigger memories of a trauma they’ve suffered.
twerking
sexually suggestive dancing characterized by rapid, repeated hip thrusts and shaking of the buttocks especially while squatting. Twerking made the news when Rhode Island State Senator Tiara Mack twerked in a campaign ad.
value signalling
When someone expresses a value or set of values. Psychology Today
vice signalling
The practice of publicly expressing opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's bad character.
virtue signalling
The practice of publicly expressing opinions or sentiments intended to demonstrate one's good character or the moral correctness of one's position. Wikipedia
white adjacent
A racist term that refers to People of Color (POC) who are not Black.
whitewash
The practice of making nonwhite fictional characters or historical figures white, thus “whitewashing” them.
woke
Having an awareness of social inequalities such as sexism, racism, etc. Some people think it's a synonym for emphathetic and compassionate. Wikipedia
